Many people avoid their dentists because of dental phobia or excessive fear. In our office
we offer Sedation Dentistry so that patient can have an anxiety-free
dental appointment. Our ultimate goal is to make your visit to the dentist completely
comfortable, relaxed and pain-free. In some cases your sedation dentist can
do years of dental treatments in just a few visits.
Types of Dental
Sedation
Nitrous oxide (Inhalation
Conscious Sedation Dentistry)
Nitrous oxide or "laughing
gas" used to help the apprehensive patient in about 35% of dental offices.
If you have had bad experience in the dental chair in the past we can administer this option to help you to relax and feel comfortable in your
dental chair - just the way it suppose to be. The use of inhalation conscious
sedation (nitrous oxide and oxygen) has been used in dentistry for generations;
and it is the most frequently employed technique. An advantage of this
technique of inhalation conscious sedation is that most people receiving it
recover promptly and can leave the dental office unescorted and resume normal
activities immediately.
Oral Sedation
(Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry)
Your dentists may prescribe a sedative
drug to be taken by mouth prior to the planned treatment at home.
Oral conscious sedation dentistry is most effective in the management of milder
degrees of dental anxiety.
IV Sedation (Intravenous Conscious Sedation Dentistry)
IV Sedation is a safe and highly
effective technique for management of moderate to more severe levels of dental
anxiety. The patient will have no memory of some, or even all, of the dental
treatment. This will lead the patient to think they were asleep during the
treatment when in reality they were awake but comfortable at all times. During
the procedure, monitoring devices will be attached to the patient. These
devices monitor the effectiveness of one's breathing, blood pressure and heart
rate, increasing the safety of the procedure.
Patients receiving Oral
Sedation or IV sedation are not permitted to leave the dental office unescorted
at the end of the procedure
or operate a motor vehicle for 24 hours after the procedure.
